"The Phoenix "represents transformation, death and rebirth in its fire. As a powerful spiritual totem, the Phoenix is the ultimate symbol of strength and renewal. In this sense, it never truly dies; it is an immortal creature continually rising from the ashes."

During the time I wrote 'The Rise of the Phoenix' for solo piano, I was collaborating with some other local female composers. We wanted to encourage one another to keep composing and to showcase our compositions at local venues. We decided to form a group called "Phoenix Collective".

I started exploring the female version of a Phoenix and I envisioned powerful images that inspired to me write about this mythical bird.

'The Rise of the Phoenix' describes the life cycle of the mythological Phoenix who rises from ashes, flies up into the sky, sings her unique melody and ultimately comes to her own destruction only to repeat the cycle again and rise up even stronger.

'The Rise of the Phoenix' has been performed at the Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts.
