I love our pug, "Henry". He is a sweet, funny, loving and loyal friend. He is part of our family.
As a composer, I spend a lot of time at home. Many times, Henry is my only companion. For this reason, I dedicated 'It's a Dog's Life' to my pug, Henry.

Here is the story behind the music:

Henry wakes up in the morning with a big yawn followed by a few snorts, scratches and a big stretch. As he awakens, he waits for his breakfast and he listens very intently for the sound of the refrigerator opening and when hears it, he runs wildly to the kitchen.

After breakfast, he receives his walk and he is ready for some very serious play and mischief! He is trying in every way to get me to chase him while he is stealing everything he possibly can ie socks, underwear, pens, pencils and paper towels to name a few.

Around mid-day, Henry’s world is turned upside down. The doorbell rings and there is also a lawn mower active outside and there is also a fire engine siren from afar. This is just too much for Henry and these traumatic events cause Henry to run madly in circles and howl uncontrollably.

It takes a little while for Henry to calm down and now he is exhausted from all the excitement. It is time to drift off into a blissful nap. Alas, it is 5:30 p.m. and dad is home from work.

It is dinner time and play time once again! Henry becomes extremely excited and starts hoarding toys and stealing whatever he can. This behavior continues until about 9:00 p.m.

Then, time for bed – more scratching, yawning and snorting followed by walking in a circular pattern and finally planting himself down for a restful night of sleep.

'It's a Dog's Life' has been performed at Timucua Arts Foundation and the Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts.
